California man sentenced on methamphetamine distribution charge

A California man has been sentenced to 10 years in a federal prison for selling methamphetamine. The 38-year-old Riverside County resident learned of his fate on Dec. 23 in a San Diego district court. He entered a guilty plea to a single count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance in August as part of a plea agreement he negotiated with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California. He could have been sentenced to life in prison if he had been convicted after a jury trial.

California street gang investigation leads to 50 arrests

A multi-agency investigation into the activities of a notorious California street gang has led to the arrest of 50 individuals and the seizure of significant quantities of illegal drugs and guns. The results of the investigation were announced during a Nov. 19 press conference. Agencies taking part in the three-month operation include the California Highway Patrol, the California Department of Justice, the Stockton Police Department and the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office.

2 California men arrested after police dog sniffs out drugs

Prosecutors accuse two men arrested in San Mateo of transporting a large amount of drugs from Southern California to the Bay Area. The arrests of the men, ages 24 and 29, occurred after San Mateo police officers initiated a traffic stop on South Norfolk Street. Officers reported finding some methamphetamine in the driver's possession. For this reason, they called in the department's drug-sniffing dog. The dog allegedly indicated that a suitcase in the vehicle contained drugs. The officers opened it and reported finding 35 pounds of methamphetamine and 2 pounds of heroin.

Authorities raid marijuana grow operation in California

The recreational use of marijuana became legal in California when voters in the Golden State passed Proposition 64 in 2016, but cultivation and distribution of the drug is tightly controlled. Criminal organizations including Mexican drug cartels are said to flout these rules and operate large marijuana cultivation centers in many parts of California, and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies are determined to stop them.

Man sentenced to 15 years in prison for selling meth

On July 8, a California man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for possessing 14 packages of methamphetamine that had been disguised to look like burritos wrapped in foil. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $300 and serve five years of supervised release after he leaves prison.

Police arrest 4 on drug charges at California dog care facility

Media outlets have reported that police in California took three men and a woman into custody at an Orange County dog boarding facility on June 6. The four suspects face a number of narcotics charges including drug possession and drug paraphernalia possession. One of the apprehended individuals is said to be the owner of the facility. Police believe that the business provides a legitimate service to pet owners in the community but was also being used to distribute heroin and methamphetamine.

Operators of dark net drug website apprehended in California

A multinational police operation has led to charges being filed against four individuals accused of running a dark net website that traded in illegal drugs, stolen personal information, and malicious software according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California. Three of the individuals taken into custody are German nationals who were apprehended in Los Angeles. The fourth is a Brazilian national who was taken into custody in his home country.
